Oats & Peanut Butter Granola Bar

Most store bought granola bars are made using refined sugar and include preservatives for a longer shelf life which means that they are not very good for our health. Skip these store bought bars and make healthier ones instead right in the comfort of your own kitchen! Not only will you save money, but you will also be 100% in control of the ingredients going into these bars which is essential for ensuring good health.

These oats and peanut butter granola bars are simple to make, are made with all organic ingredients, are free of processed sugar and require no cooking. Just combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl and mix well! They not only have the best nutty and sweet flavour but are loaded with protein, fibre, omega 3 fatty acids, energy and healthy fats. It is great to have these post-workout as they will give an instant energy boost. These bars are perfect for a quick breakfast or a mid-day healthy snacking session!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/4 cup jaggery
  • 2 tbsp roasted flax seeds
  • 2 tbsp cold pressed coconut oil
  • 1/4 tbsp vanilla essence
  • Handful of chocolate chips, optional
  • Pinch of salt

Method

  • 1)

    Dry roast the oats in a pan on medium flame. Roasting them adds a nutty flavour to the bars.

  • 2)

    Combine all the above mentioned ingredients in a deep bowl and mix well.

  • 3)

    Line a tray with parchment or butter paper, put the mixture on it and press it out to form a square using the back of a spoon or a spatula.

  • 4)

    Refrigerate ir for at least one hour so the bars can set.

  • 5)

    Take it out the of refrigerator and cut it into granola bars using a knife.

  • 6)

    Store in an air tight container and keep it in the refrigerator otherwise the peanut butter might melt if kept out in the heat.

Notes

Tips:-

  1. It is important to use old fashioned rolled oats and roast them for proper texture and flavour.
  2. Try to use organic or home-made peanut butter made using only peanuts and a pinch of salt (no sugar which most store-bought peanut butters have)
  3. Make sure to use organic jaggery and the coconut oil should be cold pressed.

 

Variations:-

  1. Instead of jaggery you can use pitted and finely chopped dates as the sweetener.
  2. You can swap peanut butter with any nut butter or seeds butter like almond, cashew, sesame seeds butter.
  3. You can also add dried fruits like blueberry, strawberry etc.
  4. You can also add any seeds apart from flax seeds to the recipe.
